Repurpose Chess Board Only - Waves, Small

$375.00

About this Board

This is a one of a kind reclaimed acacia and resin game board, made with cut up and repurposed resin art and scraps of acacia from Kathryn’s resin art and functional art. The 64 squares are tiled together into a game board and mounted on a sturdy plywood base with a black velvet backing. The resin and acacia board measures approximately 12.5” square, and the squares are approximately 1.5” square.

This listing is for the board only, and does not include pieces or the box. Contact us if you’d like those too. Please note that this board is smaller than the others listed, and there is a photo with of one of the others for comparison.

New Format Learning Curve

Each year’s Repurpose series inspires Kathryn to learn a new tool, and this year she learned her table saw in order to upcycle damaged paintings and wood trays into chess boards. The learning curve associated with this complex skill set, especially starting with reclaimed materials means that each Repurpose board is flawed, rustic and unique. There will be small cosmetic flaws, patched gaps in the joinery and minor unevenness in the board surface, but your board will be smooth, sturdy and unmistakably handmade.

Care and Packaging

Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean with a damp cloth, and condition with mineral oil. All resin and paint are sensitive to UV light, and your piece will last longest if stored indoors, away from direct sunlight. You can clean the board’s velvet backing with a lint roller.

Your board will be packaged in kraft paper with a ribbon. As part of our sustainability initiative, we reuse clean incoming packaging from Kathryn’s art supply orders to cushion your order. It doesn’t look as professional, but it’s better for the environment. We hope you can use it again too!

About the Repurpose Series

Kathryn’s annual series was made to celebrate Earth Day and a year’s worth of learning, repurposing the accumulated paint drips from a year in the studio.

The Repurpose mosaics are created with the leftover drips of paint and strips of canvas from Kathryn’s artwork. Each one is unique, and uses up materials that would otherwise be wasted.
