About this Species

Giant kelp anchors itself to the sea bottom, and grows toward the sun with the help of an air-filled bulb. This marine algae can grow 1-2 feet per day, and provides essential habitat for a wide variety of marine creatures. Kelp forests protect rocky shores from waves, produce oxygen and sequester carbon. These hidden forests are essential to life on earth.
