Travel Photos

Inspiration from our Travels

As a landscape painter, I have a policy of not painting places I haven’t seen in person. I am grateful to have a job that encourages me to travel and see new places. While I have been many places in North America, these are some places where I have extensive reference photos and can create original artwork based on my own experiences seeing it in person.

Tofino

In July 2021, our family visited Tofino, British Columbia to take reference photos for an upcoming art commission for Pacific Sands Resort. This area is south of where I grew up on Vancouver Island, and remains one of my favourite climates in the world.

Costa Rica

In February 2020, our family visited Costa Rica to take photos for a new painting series. We fell in love with this beautiful place, and remain committed to using my artwork for conservation nonprofits.

Iceland

Our family visited Iceland in April 2019 to show our kids glaciers and teach them about geothermal energy. We enjoyed staying on working farms and learning more about Iceland’s amazing geology.

Kayak Camping

We have taken our kids kayak camping in California since they were babies, and we are grateful for the opportunity to teach them water safety, low impact backcountry camping and wilderness survival skills.
