Repurpose Chess Set - Mosaic 1

$325.00

About this Set

This is a one of a kind reclaimed acacia and resin game board, made with cut up and repurposed resin art and scraps of acacia from Kathryn’s resin art and functional art. The 64 squares are tiled together into a game board and mounted on a sturdy plywood base with a black velvet backing. The resin and acacia board measures approximately 15” square, and the squares are approximately 1.75” square.

The set includes a 34 piece set of Staunton style chess pieces (one extra queen per side), made from casting drips of leftover resin, reclaimed paint chips, and ground mussel shells, collected empty from local beaches. The pieces are weighted on the bottom and finished with a black velvet backing which matches the board.

The set also includes a matching four compartment storage box measuring 12 1/2" x 4 1/8" x 3 7/8", which holds the 34 pieces or can be used as a tea box if you prefer to keep your pieces out on display.

Care and Packaging

Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean with a damp cloth, and condition with mineral oil. All resin and paint are sensitive to UV light, and your piece will last longest if stored indoors, away from direct sunlight. You can clean the board’s velvet backing with a lint roller.

Your board will be packaged in kraft paper with a ribbon. As part of our sustainability initiative, we reuse clean incoming packaging from Kathryn’s art supply orders to cushion your order. It doesn’t look as professional, but it’s better for the environment. We hope you can use it again too!

Why is it in the Garage Sale?

From Kathryn:

This was a piece from a former Repurpose series, and one of the first chess boards I made out of recycled paint. It’s one of my beginner boards so it has some small cosmetic gaps and bubbles, but it’s sturdy and unmistakably handmade!
