These candle holders are made by casting a real sea urchin shell, found empty. The recess for the tealight was drilled into the cast with a drill press, and the shape was cast in concrete and then painted and sealed. No sea urchins were harmed in the making of these pieces, but their beautiful shell patterns are captured by the mold.
The listing includes a small tealight candle. There is a protective piece of black velvet on the bottom so the urchin does not scratch surfaces. Their small candle recess can also be used to house a small air plant (pictured but not included). They measure approximately 1” tall by 2” wide.
The surface has been sealed with a protective uv coating. These holders may be used indoor or outdoor, but storage indoors is recommended to protect the painted colours.
