Our Move to British Columbia

The story behind the Northern Waters functional art series by Kathryn Beals, celebrating the ocean in British Columbia.

Our Move to British Columbia

In spring 2020, our family began planning a move to British Columbia, to be closer to our family in Canada. We’ve relocated to a small island off the West Coast, and completed a strict 14 day quarantine.

I wrote this story a year ago, and it’s fun to read it now. My husband and I both grew up in island communities in BC, and it’s been a longtime dream to move back and show our kids island life. We’re grateful that it’s possible for both of us to work remotely, and we’re embracing this opportunity to try our island living dream much sooner than anticipated. We built a small studio in the forest, “off the grid” and it’s been an adventure.

will this change ordering?

My assistant Nora has been working behind the scenes for the last several months, assisting me with surface preparation, inventory and supply ordering, as well as art shipping.

Nora will be taking on shipping of my existing paintings from California, so there will be almost no change to the website operations. You can still order artwork from anywhere in the world, and artwork will continue to ship free to the US, so there should not be any major changes for customers. My newer works will ship from Canada, but most inventory on this site will ship from the US as usual. Prices remain in US dollars. You can read more about the shipping and other policies here.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your support of our new adventure!
