Repurpose is Kathryn’s annual Earth Day series, made with leftover paint and resin from a year in the studio.

About this Box

The lids have been hand embellished with cut up drips of acrylic paint and other items from the studio. Each lid is unique. This lid has a smooth resin finish.

These boxes are Kathryn’s first fully handmade boxes, which she made at her shop in BC from Canadian fir as as way to learn a new skill.

The resin and inner wood finish are food safe and made in Canada, and the wood has a beautiful striped grain. The wood has been finished with food safe hardwax oils.

The inset lid is finished with food safe resin. The edges are sized slightly larger than the box so it is easy to lift out. The lid has a fitted but not airtight fit. It has been stamped on the back with the artist's custom wood burning brand.

Note from Kathryn - I’m still a beginner woodworker and most of these boxes are “practice” quality - there may be some cosmetic flaws in the finish, and the lids are not airtight. I’ve enjoyed making something from scratch and having complete control over the design and materials. Thanks for supporting my learning process!

Box Sizes and Care

There are three sizes of Fir Wood boxes; small, medium and large. This is the Medium size - please see photos for comparisons and examples of what they can hold.

This Medium square box measures approximately 3.5” high and 4.5” square on the outside dimensions, and would be suitable to hold keepsakes, candy, jewelry, essential oils or vanity items. The three sizes are all the same depth, and are sized to hold essential oil bottles or thread spools.

Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean with a damp cloth, and condition scuffs in the wood with mineral oil. Lids with a resin surface can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol or glass cleaner. Lids without resin can be cleaned with gentle soap and water. Read more about box care instructions here.

Shipping and Currency

This item ships from British Columbia, and prices are in US dollars. Shipping from BC may take up to three weeks, but we will do our best to get you your art before Mother’s Day.

Your box will ship in a black gift box with paper shred and a ribbon. A care card is included.
