About this Painting

This is a one of a kind painting in metal leaf and resin on a solid acacia wood tray. The design is made by hand with metal leaf and features two humpback whales. These small trays are suitable to use as a valet tray or remote tray.

These trays are the new, upgraded style of rectangular and square trays, and are larger and heavier than the original rectangular trays. You can read about the new trays and compare formats here.

The solid acacia tray measures approximately 16” x 6” x 1” with rounded corners. The tray is packaged with ribbon and a care instruction card. It has been stamped on the back with the artist's custom brand.

Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean with a damp cloth. The flat resin tray top can be cleaned with glass cleaner or alcohol. The wood can be conditioned with mineral oil.

The tray has been finished with food safe resin, and can be used as a serving tray or decorative tray. Not recommended for hot foods, prolonged outdoor use or immersion in water.

This is a handmade piece of art on natural acacia, and all handmade pieces will have small cosmetic bubbles or defects in the resin, or irregularities in the wood. Check photos carefully and message us for any clarifications.

About this Species

Humpback Whale

Humpback whales are baleen whales that feed on plankton. They migrate huge distances every year, from the warm tropical waters where they breed and nurse their calves, to the cold, nutrient rich waters of BC and Alaska where they feed. Male humpback whales sing complex songs to females during breeding season.

The humpback population is recovering from historical whaling, and many more humpbacks exist in BC’s waters than they did a few decades ago. This increase in humpback whales’ numbers presents new risks for humpbacks, as they are vulnerable to boat collisions and entanglement in fishing gear. MERS has been instrumental in monitoring humpbacks’ numbers by identifying and cataloguing each whale as an individual, and providing boater safety information for avoiding accidents.
