About the Repurpose Series

This series was made to celebrate Earth Day, and Kathryn’s first try at mosaic style collage art, repurposing the accumulated paint drips from her first year in the new studio. Read more about the Repurpose series here.

The Repurpose mosaics are created with the leftover drips of paint and resin from Kathryn’s artwork, and sealed in resin. Each one is unique, and uses up materials that would otherwise be wasted.

Because these pieces are decorated with recycled materials, the resin finish is not as smooth as her other work, and may have bubbles, indentations and bumps. Each piece is functional, unique and has an interesting story.

About This Piece

This is a one of a kind acacia box with a hinged lid embellished with acrylic, metal leaf and resin. It has been stamped on the back with the artist's custom wood burning brand.  Because these boxes are decorated with recycled materials, the resin finish is not as smooth as her other work, and has bubbles, indentations and bumps - each piece is one of a kind, and has an interesting story. This acacia box measures 14.75”x 7.75” x 3.75” and has ten compartments inside, which can hold tea bags, vanity items, essential oils, keepsakes or jewelry.

The painted surface has been finished with durable food safe resin, and is hard and shiny like glass.  There is subtle glitter in the resin to make it look like polished stone.

Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean with a damp cloth.  The flat resin surface can be cleaned with glass cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.  Read more about resin care here. This is a one of a kind handmade art piece and there may be small bubbles, cosmetic indentations or unevenness in the resin.
