About Tidepool Paintings

Kathryn made these layered clay and resin paintings honouring anemones, the beautiful and resilient creatures of the intertidal zone in British Columbia.

About This Piece

This is a one of a kind original painting made with clay, sand, repurposed materials, paint and resin on a cradled wood panel. The panel measures 10” x 10” by approximately 1.5” deep, including the wood edges. This painting does not include any shells or marine life, although it looks very real in person!

Hanging hardware is attached, and the painting is ready to hang.

Cleaning instructions: The resin areas can be cleaned with glass cleaner. The mixed media clay areas can be dusted gently with compressed air or a soft cloth.

The edges are stained to a rustic finish with natural hardwax oils.

This is a handmade piece of art, and all handmade pieces will have small flaws or cosmetic defects in the paint, or irregularities in the wood. Check photos carefully and message us for any clarifications.

About This Species

Anemones

Anemones start their life as plankton, before attaching themselves to a spot on the rocky shore, in a tidepool or on the sea bottom. They eat small crabs and fish as well as small marine invertebrates. Their green colour comes partially from a symbiotic relationship with microalgae.

Aggregating anemones can reproduce sexually or asexually, and can form large, genetically identical colonies. These colonies can engage in territorial conflict for control of an area.
